Game Jam, Cosmonauts a New Look and Team Work
It has been a while since my last post so this one will be a big one. The past week has seen the second AIE Game Jam for the year as well as the completion of the interactive character assignment. You will also notice I have made a few changes to the website, updating the look and organising things a bit.
Game Jam
Things have been a little busy over the past week. The most notable event has been the second AIE Game Jam for the year. This was a lot of fun, and a great chance to work with new people. This time round I was part of a four person team that consisted of two year one students (one art and one programer) and one other second year programer. The theme was a picture of a find-a-word, which could be interpreted however we like. We decide to go with the first word we found (and, it seemed, most other teams), which was "egg". Our game was a puzzle type game in which you had to get a chicken to lay eggs in all the baskets in the level, by clicking on the baskets before the tim ran out. My role during the 48 hour challenge was to produce the 3D assets. This included the world the game takes place on, a spherical "miniture" planet with paths circling around. Somthing different this time is the extra step of creating a small promotional package for the game. This is to be submitted next week and will consist of a video and A4 poster for the game.

The character assignment has also finished up. Check out the project page (now located on the portfolio) for more info and images. Additions and changes to the character are being considered but are lower on the list of priorities at the moment. One of the more enjoyable parts of this assignment I found was the implementation of a GUI system. While this was only a small part of the final assignment, I found it a great learning experience and will be exploring better ways of designing and implementing GUI systems in my future projects.
New Look
I have recently spent some time upgrading the site and changing things around. There is now a new uniform layout across the site and a restructure of the projects page. I will also be adding a tutorials section where I will provide notes and tutorials on processes I have used and found useful.
One More Thing
On a side note, the team project for the end of the year is progressing nicely. We are narrowing down the core ideas we want to have and the way we are going to achieve them. Further anouncements about the progress will be made further along the proccess.
