Space...More Space...and Trains
This post is a big one. The past week has seen a lot of work conducted on a variety of projects. The character modeling is complete and work has begun on the texturing as well as the skeleton/rigging stage. Another group assignment is in the process of being put together and finaly, further development of the railway workshop assets has progressed. Read on for more info.
The Cosmonaut
I was able to model some more glove like hands for the character this week, which means that the modeling is done. Work has begun on texturing the model with the oppurtunity being taken to texture using Photoshop's 3D features. This is not something that I have used a lot, and while getting used to the controls has been a bit tricky (mainly moving around the model) it has produced rather nice results. The texturing is not finished yet but I am pleased with the progress and the look that has been achieved so far. Below is the asset being textured in Photoshop.
Group Work
I am now working on the fith game prototyping group assignment for the year. This time we have decided to go with a space theme, with a game titled "Missile Command". The basic idea of the game will be to defend your ship using a gun turret. It will be first person based, with the game being designed to work with the Occulus Rift. My role as one of the artists in the team has been to concept the inital look of the cockpit as well as the enemy fighters. Below are some concepts from the development.
And Finally, Trains
With the assets I created for the railway workshop, in particular the 70 class deisel, I have been researching ways not only to extend the environment but also import these into a simulator called Trainz 12. Work on this process began this week with several of the structural elements being succesfully imported into the game. The eventual goal will be to bring in the locomotive as a fully functioning asset. See below for some images of the assets in-game. These images clearly show that changes need to be made to the materials and mesh its self to work nicely in the game.
